He the past 28 years he has worked in New Delhi, the Republic of Ireland
and the United Kingdom. He worked with Professor Andrew JW Sim as a rural
consultant surgeon in the Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway in the Outer
Hebrides of Scotland. He has worked and served as a general surgeon and
has gained varied experience within the surgical field.

Andrew JW Sim
MS, FRCS
He is the NHS Western Isles and University of Highlands and Islands Millennium
Institute (UHI) Professor of Rural and Remote Medicine. He is based in
Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. He is the first professor of remote and
rural medicine in Scotland. He holds an Honorary Clinical Senior Lectureship
in the University of Aberdeen. He worked as Senior Lecturer in surgery
in the University of London at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington and
spent nine years (1988 -1997) as Foundation Professor of Surgery developing
the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the United Arab Emirates
University in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi. He was involved, again as a Foundation
Professor of Surgery (and Anaesthesia), for one year in a project to establish
the Asean Sheffield Medical College in Ipoh, Malaysia. He is an ardent
supporter of plans to develop the specialties of Remote and Rural Medicine
and Surgery and serves on a Scottish Executive Working Group to further
this objective.
